In 2005, Romy and Ilya founded Studio ROOF together with their three young children, inspired by the belief that creativity, play and sustainability go hand in hand. Twenty years later, Studio ROOF has grown into an internationally recognised design brand, powered by a close-knit team of ten people, with the children – now young adults – still actively involved. Since 2023, we also have our own store in the heart of Amsterdam, where the full collection comes together.
All our designs are made from recycled cardboard and printed with vegetable inks. Celebrating the beauty of nature and art, we show how sustainability and design can strengthen each other.
To celebrate our 20th anniversary in September 2025, we dressed up with our entire team in elements of our own creations and published a book. We realise more than anyone how special it is that over the past 20 years we have built a brand that brings together everything that drives us – where art, nature and imagination have remained deeply intertwined and true to our core. And where we create affordable artworks that are cherished by so many different people.
